THE BALL is rolling and the new football season is up and running.

Now it is time for the Dispatch to once again hit the back of the net with news that our fantastic Goals Awards, backed by sponsors Specsavers, are back.

The competition has been a huge success since it was launched two seasons ago and rewards the entertainers and high scorers of local Saturday and Sunday football.

One again, Specsavers, of High Street, are providing the financial clout for the awards by stumping up the total of £400 in prize money.

Come the end of the season, this will be carved up into four prizes for the teams and individuals who bag the highest number of goals throughout the 2012/13 campaign.

Thee are four categories — for teams and players in Saturday and Sunday football with £100 for the winner of each section.

The competition covers the Notts Senior League and Central Midlands League on Saturdays and the Notts Sunday Morning League and Notts Combination on Sundays.

Players, fans and officials can keep tabs on who is banging the goals at the top of the charts by following updated tables every week in the Dispatch.

Dispatch content editor Martin Hutton said: “The competition offers an extra incentive for local teams to go for goals.

“The backing of Specsavers for the initiative is crucial and we are grateful once again for their support.”
