IT was breathtaking stuff, especially in the second half when TEN goals were scored and two players were sent off.
But when all the fireworks had died down, Hucknall side T8S were deservedly crowned champions of the NOTTS SUNDAY MORNING LEAGUE’S Premier First Division.
Manager Reece Jackson’s team knew that victory at Westdale Tavern would be enough to clinch T8s’ THIRD successive championship — after landing Intermediate Division One in 2008/09 (when known as Doree Bonner) and Senior Division One last term.
And they did it in style, romping to an 8-3 success to gain promotion to the top flight where they will join fellow Hucknall teams, Plough Barflies, Rolls-Royce Villa and Rolls-Royce Athletic.
The way they have rocketed up the league, few dare bet against T8s establishing themselves as Hucknall’s number one Sunday club.
In a quiet first half against Westdale, there was little sign of what was to come as only a Kyle McDermott goal separated the sides.
But after the break, Westdale received two red cards and although they also netted three goals, courtesy of Nathan Irons (2) and Ryan Scott, T8s responded with SEVEN. Danny Hayes netted two, top scorer Andy Start one, Gaz Hayes one and Danny Gamble one, while captain Matthew Peberday converted a penalty and Billy Brookes scored a remarkable goal from the halfway-line.
