IMPROVING Hucknall Town received a boost in their battle to avoid relegation from the Evo-Stik League, Premier Division when they beat fellow strugglers Nantwich Town on Saturday (March 26).
In-form striker Tyeisse ‘TJ’ Nightingale was the hero as he scored in either half to secure a 2-1 away win, which saw The Yellows leapfrog out of the bottom four.
The brace took Nightingale’s tally to five in his last two games, following on from his hat-trick against Retford United four days earlier.
Yellows chief Tommy Brookbanks stuck with the same 11 that thumped The Badgers 5-2, and it paid dividends early on as Nightingale scored in the 13th minute.
Winger Anthony Griffith Junior slid a pass through to the onrushing frontman and he coolly slipped the ball under Nantwich’s new ‘keeper Daniel Platt.
Up the other end, in the 20th minute, Yellows’ ‘keeper Ross Whalin palmed away a vicious shot from former professional Rodney Jack.
Two minutes later Nightingale wasted a golden opportunity when he looped a header over the crossbar from close range.
He was made to pay a minute before the break when defender Charlie Reeves headed a Jake Sedgemore cross past Whalin for 1-1.
Ten minutes after half-time The Yellows regained the lead. Platt rebuffed Nightingale’s initial effort, but the striker made no mistake from the rebound.
For the home side, Dave Whittaker struck a post on 58, before Whalin denied a close-range Rod McDonald header on 67.
Yellows substitute Tris Whitman almost made it three as the clock ticked down, but was denied in acrobatic fashion by Platt.
