Sprightly HUCKNALL AND LINBY DOLPHINS were delighted with a vastly improved performance in the Second Round of the Notts ASA Stage Two Competition at the Water Meadows complex in Mansfield last Saturday night.
Amassing 70 points more than in the previous round, back-to-strength Dolphins finished fifth of the six teams, 33 points chead of the bottom club and were buoyed by some superb swims across the age ranges.
In all, three wins, three runners-up spots, five third places and 11 personal-bext (PB) times made it a productive night.
Senior swimmer, 17-year-old Edward Turner, led by example, storming to two victories in the open 50m backstroke and freestyle (PB), while 11-year-old Gabe Moth continued his fine run of form with an easy triumph in the 12-and-under 50m backstroke.
Runners-up positions went to nine-year-old Freya Blair in the ten-and-under 50m freestyle, where she registered an impressive PB and a 2015 county qualifying time, and to improving ten-year-old Lauren Daft, who sliced three seconds off her previous PB in the ten-and-under 50m breaststroke. The boys’ ten-and-under medley relay team of Francis Dermody, Peter Frettingham, Curtis Flint and Iasaac Bennison scooped the third runners-up slot.
Other highlights included a well-deserved hat-trick of best times for determined 11-year-old Courtney Hutson in the 50m butterfly, backstroke and breaststroke, plus PBs for nine-year-old Joseph Lilley in the 50m freestyle and for 17-year-old Hayley Goodwin in the 50m backstroke.
Commented a Dolphins spokesman: “We felt a little deflated after the previous round, but now we are very pleased. We’re working hard for the final round on 1st November.”
