AN UNBEATEN start to the season continued for the men of Hucknall Water Polo Club as they hit the top of Division One in the Midlands League.
The locals have won all five of their outings this term and are now a point clear of the pack after hammering Paragon, of Stoke, 16-6 at Hucknall Leisure Centre.
The home side started at a lightning-fast pace and Joe Cooper fed James Hadlow to open the scoring. A succession of strange refereeing decisions led to Hadlow and centre-back Addy Taylor being sin-binned and Paragon duly levelled.
But it was to be the last time the contest was all-square as impact forward Dan Siddons scored with his first touch and goal machine Lee Copley made it 3-1 by the end of the first quarter.
Further goals from Siddons, Copley (2) and a last-minute finish from Thomas Endy kept Hucknall in front at the halfway stage despite Paragon’s endeavour.
In the second half, it was all Hucknall as the visitors tired. Tom Archer sped through to finish, Danny Evans hit the net from distance, Hadlow and Siddons added another couple apiece, Copley netted and the impressive Brenn Burbanks (2) completed a fine individual second-half display.
