A week to remember for HUCKNALL FALCON saw two swimmers distinguish themselves on the regional stage and the club celebrate a terrific runners-up spot in a hotly-contested gala.
George Webster and Elise Connor did well to qualify for the Midlands ASA Championships for the first time. But they did even better to make it through to the finals of their events, considering only the top eight in their age groups win a place from the heats.
Webster finished seventh in the 13-year-old boys’ 50m breaststroke, clocking a personal-best (PB) time, while Connor was eighth in the 14-year-old girls’ 50m freestyle.
Both were also in the Falcon team that finished second in the Gladys Hull Trophy gala, which was held at the Hucknall Leisure Centre pool. A total of 15 victories, plus ten second places and a staggering tally of 47 PBs, enabled the locals to end up only 15 points behind the trophy winners Sutton.
Webster (13-and-under boys’ 50m breaststroke) was one of Falcon’s individual winners. The others were: Dylan Walker (nine-and-under boys’ 25m backstroke and 25m freestyle), Harvey Green (13-and-under boys’ 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke), Sophie Hutson (13-and-under girls’ 50m butterfly), Ben Canavan-Taylor (boys’ open 100m backstroke), Dylan Hutchinson (nine-and-under boys’ 25m breaststroke), Tom Howarth (boys’ open 100m breaststroke), Amelia Sale (girls’ open 100m butterfly) and Finley Ellis (11-and-under boys’ 50m backstroke).
Four relay teams were also victorious -- in the 15-and-under girls’ 4X25m freestyle, the 13-and-under boys’ 4X25m freestyle, the 13-and-under girls’ 4X25m freestyle snd the boys’ open 4X25m freestyle.
RESULT -- Sutton 237, FALCON 220, Arnold Gold 185, Kimberley 182, Carlton Forum 154, Arnold Blue 80.
