Three teams are locked on the same number of points at the top of the HUCKNALL EPA POOL LEAGUE -- after a second successive defeat for wobbly leaders Station Hotel (Hucknall) B.
Station B failed to recover from their 5-3 reverse at the hands of Empire A the previous week as they crashed by the same score at home to mid-table Liberal Club.
They were soon trailing 2-0 after wins from Liberal duo Bill Clark and William Clark. And although they levelled thanks to Sean Chauntry, who registered an eight-ball clearance and also won a pairs leg with Dave Butler, Liberal soon took command again.
Victories for Steve Clark on singles and pairs (with William Clark) put the visitors 4-2 up and after Danny Butler had given the home team hope, the points were clinched on the last leg when Ray Oldham beat Paul Hibbard.
Despite losing, Station B clung on to top spot -- but only on leg-difference from Empire A, who hammered Yew Tree 8-0, and unbeaten Royal British Legion B, who were without a fixture and so now have a game in hand.
There would have been FOUR teams level at the top, but Park Tavern dropped a vital point in a 4-4 draw away to bottom-of-the-table Chequers.
The home side even looked well on their way to pulling off a shock when surging into a 3-0 lead thanks to Phoenix Payne, Craig Yeomans and the pairing of Adam Woodfield and Ben Hathersmith.
But Tavern roared back to lead 4-3, with Billy Wood victorious on singles and pairs, and Chequers needed a last-leg singles win from Hathersmith to share the spoils.
The week’s remaining two fixtures were won by The Dragon, who licked Harrier H2O 6-2, and Bestwood Village Social Club, who recovered from 3-1 down to beat Green Dragoin 5-3. Bestwood’s hero was Vaughan Jackson, who won on singles and pairs.
