Xtreme Sports heats

THE build-up to the Active Ashfield Games warmed up when Titchfield Park in Hucknall hosted Xtreme Sports heats.

Free competitions were held in BMX, skateboarding, scooters and free-running, with the winners qualifying for the Xtreme Sports finals, which will also be held at the Park Drive park on Sunday July 1.

There were categories in three age-groups — six-to-12-years, 13-to-16 years and 17-and-over. And the afternoon also included the chance to try out the new sport of slack-lining, which is similar to tightrope-walking.

Meanwhile games organisers, Ashfield District Council, have issued an appeal for teams to take part in the netball competition, which will be staged at Ashfield School in Kirkby on Saturday June 30.

Lady players aged 16 and over are needed for a tourney in which the focus will be on fun, rather than serious competition.

“It is aimed at ladies who want to get involved in netball or who are planning to return to the game,” says Carol Hallam, sports development officer at the council and also chairman of the Ashfield and District Netball League.
