THE lads of HUCKNALL RANGERS UNDER-9S have won a new VIP fan — none other than leading Hucknall councillor Mick Murphy (Con).

Rangers, who play at Hillside Primary School, wrote to Coun Murphy to ask if he could help them fund some of their facilities for the season.

And they were delighted when he responded immediately and promised them a cheque for £300 from a pot of Notts County Council money he is allowed to spend on worthy local causes.

Now Coun Murphy has handed over the cheque and also stayed to watch one of their home games in the Young Elizabethan League.

“We would like to express our thanks to Coun Murphy,” said a club spokesman. “The funding will be used to pay for the hire of our home ground and indoor training during the winter.”
