JUBILANT HUCKNALL RANGERS UNDER-12S WHITE are celebrating a famous league and cup double in the Young Elizabethan League after scoring 150 goals in 24 matches.
Rangers were crowned Sunday Third Division champions thanks to 17 wins in their 18 games and just one defeat.
And they doubled up by landing the Sunday Trophy with a 3-2 victory over Cotgrave in the final at Arnold Town’s Eagle Valley Stadium.
Cotgrave play a division higher but in a tense match, Rangers took the lead when man-of-the-match Keenan Fraser was bundled over for a penalty that defender Mitchell Jackson calmly converted.
It was 2-0 20 seconds after the interval when captain and top scorer Morgan Brough burst past four players to fire home an unstoppable, low shot for a fine individual goal.
Cotgrave pulled a goal back to set up an end-to-end finale. But five minutes from time, Rangers delivered the killer blow with a strike from Luke Burton. Cotgrave’s second, in stoppage-time, was a mere consolation.
The Hucknall lads had wrapped up their momentous league season with a 5-1 victory over Stapleford VIlla, thanks chiefly to a hat-trick from the inspirational Brough.
Brough’s first-half brace put them in command by the break and after Stapleford had halved the deficit, Rangers netted three more, with Jackson and Nathan Frith also making the scoresheet.
After the match, Rangers were presented with the championship trophy and tucked into some non-alcoholic champagne!
