MEMBERS of Newstead Women's Institute (WI) have celebrated their first anniversary.
The group were launched in February 2008 after the disbandment of the Women In Newstead organisation and they celebrated a successful year with a party and games night.

The WI started with fewer than ten members but that number has now risen to 16 and they are looking forward to another year packed with a variety of activities, including belly dancing and a trip to the Bakewell Pudding Shop in Derbyshire

They also plan to help local youngsters make costumes for the village's Treefest festival, which focuses on music, arts, crafts, health and the environment.

The group have lined up meetings at the Station Hotel pub, on Station Road in Newstead, on every third Monday of each month. New members are always welcome and can pop along to one of their meetings or ring secretary Hilary Smailes on 01623 723437.
