For the first time since its inception in 1968, Hucknall’s Lovelace Theatre Group is staging a Shakespearian classic as a tribute to the Bard in what is his 450th anniversary year.
A 30 strong cast under the direction of Pat Richards will be performing the evergreen favourite “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” .
Teaming up to take on the principal roles of Oberon, Titania, Puck and Bottom, will be Ed Turner, Jess Wall, Jen White and Becky Morris respectively.
Young performers representing local schools, veterans of the group’s pantomimes, a couple of newcomers and the ever reliable members who take on roles in the chorus will be out to impress.
Lovelace stalwart Linda Mayes, who has chalked up more than 40, years with the group said: “ Shakespeare represents a really big challenge for us, but the cast have shown total commitment to the production and rehearsals are going really well.”
Another stalwart is Roger Knowles, whose wife Christine is Assistant Director, plays Theseus in the production, which also features Beth Garwood as Helena, Richard Speight who plays Demetrius, Tom Morley in the role of Lysander, and Angela Pushpa-Rajah as Hermia,
He said: “ I have performed and directed many plays with Lovelace down the years and Shakespeare is a totally new experience for us all.
“The fact that 2014 is William Shakespeare’s 450th anniversary year was relevant as to why we chose to stage “ A Midsummer Night’s Dream” as a special tribute to a literary giant “ he said.
