Hucknall welcomes visitors for cultural heritage show

Hucknall welcomed visitors from all over the world earlier this month for a colourful charity showcase of Filipino arts and heritage.

The John Godber Centre was the venue for a gathering of around 200 Filipino expats on October 17, joined by representatives and supporters from the local community.

It was led by the Padua Charitable Fund, a welfare organisation for Filipinos at home and abroad, and the Lottery-funded Filipino Heritage.

It marked the end of a teaching project on the traditions and cultural experiences of the South-East Asian country, with song, dance, cookery and dressmaking.

Host Isabel Padua Grant said: “For many of us, it was a personal and communal journey to achieving something we never thought we could.

“Above all, the bonding, the comraderie that occurred each time we met was so immense and such great fun, this will stay in our hearts for a long, long time.”

County Councillor John Wilmott attended the show and said: “This was a fine show indeed, bringing all the rich cultural heritage of the Filipino people to Hucknall.”
