Many went to the super human effort of turning up dressed as their favourite character in Hallam FM Cash For Kids fundraising bid to break the world record of 1,580 people dressed as superheroes at an event.

Photographs and video evidence will now be examined as ‘costume police’ decide whether the record was smashed.

From humble beginnings with the intention of bringing like-minded people together, it has grown to be one of the largest, most popular, events in the Yorkshire calendar and has been listed as one of the top ten must see biggest events of 2016.

The event, with stalls, photo and games areas, was hailed a huge success by co-organiser Jon Higson, who said: “We’ve had a fantastic turn out and we plan to be back next June.

“Cosplaying, or costume play, is for everyone; from children to adults who want to pretend to be someone else for a day, or just people who like to dress up."

Allan Ogle, Cash For Kids Charity Manager, explained how they had collated as much evidence as possible to provide proof that the event took place and if the record was broken. The Guinness World Records decision will be final.

But they asked those taking part for a minimum £1 donation per person for their photo taken on entry at their desk, to raise at least hundreds of pounds for the charity.

He said: It's been amazing., a superhero effort from everybody.Thousands of people came to the event, many in costumes and it's raised a lot of money for the charity."
