Ex-Eastenders star Lucy Speed to star in Create Theatre production

A former Eastenders actress will be showing audiences at Create Theatre what reality behind the fantasy business is like through a production by Fifth Word Theatre.

Following the production of smash hit show Bones, Fifth Word returns to Create with Amateur Girl by Nottingham’s Amanda Whittington on Friday 14th and Saturday 15th March.

It will be the last chance to see this production as it ends its tour in Mansfield – the very town featured in the show.

Based on real-life stories, Amateur Girl, starring Lucy Speed, is a hard-hitting, poignant yet wryly amusing play about the reality behind the fantasy business.

Lucy plays Julie, a likeable auxiliary nurse, working long hours for a low wage in a Mansfield hospital. She cares for the elderly and feels her own life is passing her by, she wonders if her best days are behind her. Clubbing with the girls breaks the routine but Julie longs for some real excitement and a bit of spare cash.

Create Theatre co-ordinator Adam Pownall said: “It’s great to be having Fifth Word Theatre back with us after the amazing success of their production of Bones in 2012. We always support local companies and new writing as well as exploring controversial topics through the medium of performance.”

When her new boyfriend buys a camcorder, Julie sees a lucrative new career on the horizon. She’s drawn into the world of the amateur girls; the so-called stars of home-made pornography on satellite TV and the internet. Yet Julie’s new life can’t stay secret for long. What starts as a bit of fun becomes anything but.
