Head to see band whose talent sticks out a mile

When folk and punk collide - that is a pretty fair description of The Headsticks sound.

You can see them in action at The Queen’s Head in Belper on Saturday, April 25.

Formed from the ashes of several Stoke-on-Trent bands, including one-time Belper favourites, The Clay Faces, Headsticks made their live debut at the end of 2012 and just over six months later opened for The Tolpuddle Festival, having established a firm reputation on the club circuit.

Their debut album - Muster - was released last year and swiftly drew critical acclaim for the quality of the songwriting and the musical energy of the band.

Almost immediately, they augmented their ranks to become five and create a wider range of styles and textures.

Comparisons are not always helpful but the album reviews saw them favourably compared with the likes of The Men They Couldn’t Hang and early Billy Bragg.

For this gig at the Queens Head on Chesterfield Road, they bring with them Mark Bailey aka The Trent Vale Poet, who commands a following in his own right.

Expect a night of passionate songs and dynamic performances.
