Kirkby date for Ashfield choir

Ashfield Harmony, formerly known as Kirkby Light Operatic Society, are performing songs from The Great American Songbook at a concert being held on Saturday.

Taking place at Ashfield School, it will cover the work of some great American composers from the 1920s to the 1980s, the programme will include the music of Cole Porter - the unforgettable ‘Night and Day’ and ‘Let’s Do It’ - a beautiful selection from ‘Porgy and Bess’ and the pens of George and Ira Gershwin.

It will also includes numbers from a later era, including The Carpenters and Simon and Garfunkel, before ending the evening with a taste of the jazz era and a medley from the hit show ‘Chicago’.

The special guest is Nottinghamshire saxophonist, Alistair Parnell, a highly respected performer and teacher who is one of the world’s leading electronic wind instrument specialists.

Alistair’s performance of ‘Wichita Lineman’ is not to be missed and he will be accompanied by Ashfield Harmony’s Musical Director Stephen Wall, for a terrific ‘Gershwin Fantasy’.

The concert starts at 7pm and tickets are priced at £7 each.
