Love, life and woe in new community play

Under the Headstocks Theatre Company is presenting Taking to the Air, a new play by Malcolm Seymour, at the Black Bull, Woodhouse Road, Mansfield, on Friday, 24th and Saturday, 25th January at 7.30pm.

Stenton Sound is a community radio station facing an uncertain financial future.

However, there are also personal problems amongst the staff. Eddie Foster, the Station Manager, is becoming increasingly attracted to his PA, Beth Cooper. His wife, Sally, harbours her suspicions, but can prove nothing.

One of the presenters, Eddie’s long-time friend Rockin’ Billy Evans, has a drink problem. He swears on air when his microphone is “live”, prompting a flood of complaints. Eddie is reluctant to act.

Eddie then interviews local councillor Jackie Norris about the council’s commitment to the station. She refuses to be pinned down and the interview ends acrimoniously.

The play tracks Eddie’s efforts to solve these multiple problems and secure the station’s future.

Tickets are £5 and can be bought by phoning: 07871 772005.
