Notts composer’s Robin Hood work to receive premiere

A Southwell composer has produced a new choral work celebrating Nottinghamshire’s local hero.

Songs and Legends of Robin Hood has been composed by Guy Turner, as the result of a commission by the Nottingham Bach Choir.

The 35-minute choral work includes settings of poems by Walter Scott and Alfred Lord Tennyson, along with traditional and Elizabethan texts.

Guy Turner, a freelance composer, teacher and performer, said: “The process of writing the piece, which took about five months, has been a real pleasure and I am very much looking forward to the premiere: the Nottingham Bach Choir is a fine choir, and it has been a privilege to write for them.’

Nottingham Bach Choir will perform the new work at St Mary’s Church, Nottingham on Saturday, June 13.
