Review: The trumpet sounds for Mansfield Choral Society

Celebrating their 40th year of singing, Mansfield Choral Society had extended an invitation to anyone in the community to join them to perform Handel’s sacred oratorio, Messiah.

It’s been over seven years since Mansfield Choral Society has performed Messiah and it was well worth the wait!

More than 300 people streamed into the Palace Thetre in excited anticipation and were not disappointed.

Led by their Artistic Director, Peter Siepmann, Siepmann who wielded his baton with unerring precision, the dynamics with which the choir interpreted the movements were wonderful; they were superbly accompanied by the Helix Ensemble who were a joy to listen to.

The soloists were sublime – local girl, ex Cantamus singer, Abigail Broughton (soprano), Ailsa Mainwaring (alto), Richard Roddis (tenor) and Rene Bloice-Sanders (baritone).

It was a pleasure to listen to ‘Let all the angels of God worship Him’ which is often cut from performances; the jubilant ‘Hallelujah’ chorus was magnificent and ‘Worthy is the Lamb’ and ‘Amen’ brought the evening to a momentous close.
