Talk on The Pentrich Revolution

A talk on The Pentrich Revolution will be given by Michael Parkin on Tuesday, January 27, at Sutton Library.

Hear how the band of Pentrich men marched towards Nottingham in 1817 to complain about their quality of life to Parliament, with plans to overthrow the government and abolish the monarchy.

A govenment spy among the marchers meant that the uprising was quashed soon after. Eighty-five men were jailed, 45 were tried for high treason, three hanged and beheaded and 14 sent to Australia.

In 2017 the Pentrich and South Wingfield Revolution Group will mark the bi-centenary of the uprising.
