Greasley Players are back in action

An acclaimed Edwardian drama written more than a century ago by Githa Sowerby has been revived and is wowing audiences, writes Peter Jordan.

The Greasley Players is staging a production of Rutherford and Son, which centres around tyrannical, oppressive patriarch John Rutherford and his obsession with his glassmaking business, making profit and pleasing the aristocrats to the detriment of his family.

Retired headteacher Chris Johnston takes on the principal role in the play, which is being directed by Bob Wildgust and brings together a cast of eight, including teenager Daniella Huskisson, making her debut.

Katrina Hockenhull, Pat Samuels ,Andrew Plumb, Colin Fletcher, Lindy Whittaker and Ian Baxter, complete the line-up of performers.

Rutherford and Son is being staged from Thursday, November 20, to Saturday, November 22, at 7.30pm each night in St.Mary’s Church Hall, Greasley.
