hit the road at derby theatre

Derby Theatre’s big production for the spring can be seen from February 27-March 14.

Solace Of The Road is adapted by Mike Kenny from the novel by Siobhan Dowd, and is to be directed by Sarah Brigham.

Rebecca Ryan (above) returns to the venue to star as Solace, a girl on the road in search of her birth mother.

Rebecca Ryan will be familiar to many through her roles in Channel 4’s Shameless and Waterloo Road for the BBC. Rebecca also played Jo in Derby Theatre and Hull Truck Theatre’s co -production of A Taste of Honey last year.

Playing the role of her mother will be Polly Lister, who played the knockout role of the mother in Derby Theatre’s smash-hit production of Cooking with Elvis in 2013.

It’s Holly’s birthday and she’s going on a road trip to find her mum.

Head-strong and street-smart, she boldly sets out as her glamourous blonde alter ego, Solace.

So begins a bittersweet, and sometimes hilarious, journey as Solace swaggers and Holly tiptoes across England and through memory, discovering her true self, and unlocking the secrets of her past.

Leaving her foster home behind Solace’s sharp talk helps her navigate a host of curious characters on this road trip which turns out to be more about finding herself than looking for answers.

Olivier Award-winning writer Mike Kenny has adapted Siobhan Dowd’s Carnegie award-winning novel.

Alive with the passions and frustrations of growing up, this witty and touching play will inspire anyone who is, or ever has been, a teenager.

Tickets are £9.50-£25.50, concessions £9.50 £23.50. School and group rates are available. Call 01332 593939 or online at www.derbytheatre.co.uk
