Political tales at the Playhouse

Directed by Susannah Tresilian, designed by Ellan Parry, and co-produced with Salisbury Playhouse, Posh (February 13-28) will headline the theatre’s spring 2015 Season alongside two new commissions, How to Breathe (February 17-21) and Tony’s Last Tape (February 25-28).

Continuing the theatre’s ten-year collaboration with Shared Experience, Nottingham Playhouse will also present Mermaid (March 13-21), conceived, created and directed by Polly Teale, a bold re-telling of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic fairy tale.

Jonathan Harvey’s Beautiful Thing (April 21-May 9) also comes to Nottingham Playhouse following its critically acclaimed London run last year. Nottingham Playhouse is co-producing Nikolai Foster’s celebrated revival with Leicester Curve and Tom O’Connell for QNQ Productions and stars multi-award winning actress Charlie Brooks (Janine Butcher in EastEnders).

I am delighted that we are presenting as part of our Power and Politics season two new commissions by Nottingham writers which examine two contrasting and vital stories. As British military activity in Afghanistan draws to a close, we shall be staging BBC Writersroom10 winner Mufaro Makubika’s How to Breathe; and playing alongside the regional premiere of ‘Posh’ we shall be reflecting on the legacy of one of British politics’ most respected but divisive characters Tony Benn, in Andy Barrett’s new play Tony’s Last Tape.”
