Leeds-based Opera North, a favourite with Nottingham Theatre Royal audiences for more than 30 years, will be hosting the ‘Inside Opera: Live’ event as well as showcasing their current revival of Phyllida Lloyd’s classic production of Puccini’s tearjerker ‘La Boheme.’

There will also be contributions from two capital groups -- English National Opera and their premiere staging of ‘The Thebans’ and the nearby Royal Opera with ‘The Marriage of Figaro’ and Tosca’ -- plus a chance to join English Touring Operas as it goes out of the road.

Other major players adding to the variety in the four-hour musical marathon are Welsh National Opera who’ll be taking viewers across their big patch, stopping off in Plymouth and Wrexham; north of the border it’s the turn of Scottish Opera showing all the stages of production for Mozart’s ‘Don Giovanni’ while last, but not least, it’s across the water as Northern Ireland Opera show all the work involved in mounting the premiere of Gerald Barry’s new work, ‘The Importance of Being Earnest.’

Opera North press and PR manager Julia Gregg told Chad that this first for the arts would combine live streamed and filmed footage, giving viewers a chance to experience opera across the UK from the inside, and encouraging them to find out about opera on their doorstep.

‘Inside Opera: Live’ can be seen this Saturday, 10th, between 2pm and 6pm at www.youtube.com/insideopera or by logging onto the Guardian website.
