Zodiac Theatre Company performing in the city

A Mansfield theatre company is performing in Nottingham for the first time this week, presenting a play that explores faith, memory and the meaning of sainthood.

Zodiac Theatre Company is performing John Pielmeier’s Agnes of God at the Lace Market Theatre, a play that tells the story of a novice nun who gives birth and insists that the dead child was the result of a virgin conception.

A psychiatrist is called in to investigate the incident and her faith in science and facts results in a huge clash with the mother superior of the convent who chooses to put her faith in God and the unknown.

It will add to Zodiac’s reputation for hard-hitting productions.

Director Simon Ward said: “Agnes of God perfectly shows how many extremist views boil down to the smallest of incidents and through exploring one dramatic event the ongoing debate about whether we should put our faith in science or religion is explored.”

The play is on Thursday 7th August at 7.30pm. Tickets are £11 and are available through the Lace Market Theatre Box Office on 0115 950 7201.
