Thill-packed week across the county

Whatever your preference, there will be activities to suit all ages and tastes, including nature walks, crafts and spooky fun days.

This month groups, organisations and schools around the county are producing and decorating models of poppies as part of an exhibition commemorating the First World War.

As part of the exhibition children and families can take part in free Big Draw workshops at Rufford Craft Centre during October half term between 25th October and 2nd November, from 11am to 4pm.

But if it is outdoor flora and fauna you are after then a Fungi Foray is being held at Sherwood Forest Country Park on 18th October between 10.30am-12.30pm.

Expert guidance will be on hand as participants go in search of the common and not so common fungi lurking in the forest.

A Walk with the Hawks will also be held on 29th October from 11am onwards at Sherwood Forest.

This will offer a chance to get up close and personal with these beautiful creatures and learn some fascinating facts about falconry along the way.

Meanwhile, a ranger-led walk is planned on 19th October between 10am-12pm at Bestwood Country Park to learn about its habitats as autumn gives way to winter.

The park will also play host to a Halloween Pumpkin Trail on 25th October between 10am-1pm. Participants in this self-led walk buy a trail leaflet from the Dynamo House, and search for spooky, hidden surprises.

Similarly spooky activities throughout Nottinghamshire over half term are as follows:

l Halloween Trail at Rufford Abbey County Park from 25th October until 2 November between 10.30am-4.30pm

l Children’s Halloween Adventure on 24th October between 6-7.30pm. A ghostly adventure for children in the mysterious surroundings of Sherwood Forest.

l Halloween Special Ghost Hunt on 24th October between 9pm–2am at Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre. Searching out paranormal activities and delving in the deep historical secrets of Medieval Sherwood Forest

l Spooky Trail between 25th October and 2nd November from 11am-3pm. A self-guided trail around the glades of Sherwood Forest.

l Sherwood Halloween Walk on 31st October at 7.30pm. Venture into Sherwood Forest for a ghoulish experience
