And when the sun is also beaming down and you’re in a stunningly beautiful and historic place such as Wollaton Hall then even better.

It’s been a while since I last enjoyed a fruit-filled scone with a more than unhealthy dose of clotted cream and jam, so when I passed by the Lazy Daisy vintage tea room it was an opportunity I was more than happy to seize.

Lazy Daisy is the brainchild of Rebecca Leivers, who is attempting to taking tourists back in time to a world of the 1940’s with her brand new business.

For £15 per person my wife and I were treated to a feed that probably didn’t help our waistlines, but certainly tickled our tastebuds.

Thankfully for us our 1940’s themed day didn’t feature any war-time rationing.

The feast, which is served up on vintage 1940’s china, started with a savoury cheese scone along with a more than generous pot of freshly filtered coffee and tea.

I must admit the scone wasn’t my cup of tea (or coffee in my case), give me one filled full of fruit any day, but it was certainly worth giving it a try.

Of course, no cream tea would be complete without the traditional serving of finger sandwiches with the crusts cut off and some mouth-watering cakes and buns.

The sandwiches featured old favourites such as egg, chicken, tomato, tuna and smoked salmon, which was packed full of taste and tipped me even nearer to the being fit to burst line.

But no matter how full I am, I will always have a good go at putting away the pastry’s.

And out next were home made macaroons that Lorraine Pascale would have been happy to call her own, scones (the good kind) with clotted cream and jam, carrot cake and a tasty slice of sponge cake.

Throughout the meal gentle music that reminded me of a high-class piano bar soothingly played away in the background as we sat back and enjoyed lovely views of the beautiful floral gardens.

All in all the food and the setting was delightful and the perfect way to escape the stresses and little annoyances that the modern world has to offer.

Lazy Daisy has a number of events coming up in recent weeks, starting with Newstead Abbey on 29th June.

They will also be at Wollaton Hall on 20th July and Newstead Abbey on 27th July, 24th and 25th August.
