The swimming pool at Hucknall Leisure Centre is set to re-open after a five-month closure due to coronavirus.

Following the successful re-opening of gyms and group exercise studios, which are managed by Everyone Active and Ashfield District Council, the swimming pools at Hucknall Leisure Centre and Lammas Leisure Centre will re-open for bookable lane swimming on August 14, and swimming lessons will commence on August 22.

The Government update on July 9, confirmed leisure facilities were now safe to re-open, with strict operational measures in place.

A variety of measures have been introduced across the facilities. These include booking in advance for sessions and fewer lessons within the pool at any one time, to allow for both children and swimming teachers to social distance. Lesson times will be staggered so there will be fewer classes starting and finishing at the same time and only one parent/guardian is asked to attend with a child, to reduce the number of people in the centre.

Coun Kier Barsby, portfolio holder for health and leisure, said: “It was brilliant to see our leisure centres safely re-open their doors at the beginning of the month as we know just how many people have missed getting active in the gyms and studios.

“We also know how much our swimming pools have been missed, especially by youngsters who had been regularly attending classes with their friends.

"To see them back in use is a welcome boost for Ashfield residents.”

Lorenzo Clark, Everyone Active’s contract manager, said: “After a successful reopening of our gyms and studios, we’re pleased to take the next step in our phased reopening plan and get everyone active in our swimming pools again!

“Ensuring we maintain a safe environment for our colleagues and customers is our number one priority and we have carefully considered the strict measurements to ensure we adhere to the guidance. We encourage visitors to read through the changes we are making so we can maintain a safe environment for everyone.

“Thank you to everyone for their patience.”
