Doncaster-based consultancy Beta forms new links with China

The eight-strong delegation was in the UK to receive the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining’s Charles Hatchett Award for the best research paper on the applied use of niobium.

Beta coordinates arrangements for the award, which is sponsored by the world’s largest producer of niobium, Brazilian company CBMM.

The Chinese delegation, which contained representatives from three major steel producers, visited Sheffield University’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering and the Cutlers’ Hall and met Rotherham Council leader Roger Stone and Doncaster’s Civic Mayor, Eva Hughes.

Beta Technology’s managing director, Richard Wrigley, said: “We have been developing our activities with Brazil and this has led to new business connections with China.

“One of our core strengths is our networks and China provides another avenue to develop knowledge transfer opportunities for the benefit of South Yorkshire.

“Our guests have left with a favourable impression of what the region has to offer and they have made a number of useful contacts which will no doubt lead to future collaborations.”
