Mansfield and Ashfield businesses urged to plan for pension changes

With only a year to go until all businesses will be affected by automatic enrolment onto the new workplace pension scheme, business experts from Stopford Associates and Merrix Grogan Chartered Financial Planners are urging local businesses to start planning for the change.

The new scheme will see a huge reform in pension provision that will affect millions of people, and will prove a challenge for many businesses. Automatic enrolment is being phased in over a number years and medium and smaller sized businesses will need to enrol staff during 2014 and 2015.

In order to help businesses through this transition, Stopfords and Merrix Grogan will be hosting a free workplace pension seminar on Friday 28 February at the Towers, Botany Avenue in Mansfield.

The free seminar will explain the legal frameworks surrounding auto enrolment, key dates, cost effective planning solutions and will also provide a practical guide to solving the issues involved. Speakers at the event include Brian Stopford from Stopford Associates and Richard Merrix from Merrix Grogan, and a Q&A session will also take place.

The Government estimated that around seven million people in the UK are not currently saving enough for their retirement and introduced the new workplace pension scheme to get more people saving for the future and address problems arising from increased life expectancy.

Brian Stopford, Director at Stopford Associates, said: ‘We are delighted to be hosting this seminar in partnership with Merrix Grogan and are pleased that it will support many local businesses through what will be a difficult transition.

Automatic enrolment will have a major impact on all businesses and it is vital that they start planning for the changes as soon as possible.’
