It was originally revealed as a three-door concept under the Urban EV concept label at the Frankfurt motor show in 2017. A close-to-production five-door version was also shown at this year’s Geneva motor show under the name of the Honda e Prototype.

According to Honda that prototype was 95 per cent production ready, reflecting what buyers will actually get when they order the Honda e.

The final car will be revealed this summer and is intended to be on sale in Europe by the end of the year. Honda says it has already had 6,500 expressions of interest in the UK.

Honda hasn’t given official details of the all-electric e’s drivetrain but it will be rear-wheel drive and is expected to have an official range of around 125 miles and a charging time of around 30 minutes on a rapid charger.

The Honda e is Honda’s first model built on a dedicated EV platform. It features innovations including cameras in place of rear-view mirrors, and a full-width digital dashboard .

Honda says that the e is central to its‘Electric Vision’ strategy, which will see all Honda cars electrified by 2025.

At the same time as confirming the e’s name, Honda announced that the next generation of its Jazz supermini will come with the i-MMD hybrid system currently in use in the CR-V hybrid.
