The centre will open on Saturday, March 20 and Coun John Willmott, who represents Hucknall North for the Ashfield Independents on Ashfield District Council, said he was ‘over the moon’ about the news.

He said: "This is something the Ashfield Independents have fought for a long, long time for because there’s been lots of vaccination centres opening up around the place but none in Hucknall, so this is brilliant news that will now will have one.

"We’ve campaigned long and hard to the NHS for a vaccination centre in Hucknall because we have nearly 40,000 residents if you include the outlying areas like Papplewick and Linby.

“And you do include them because those residents all come into Hucknall to their shopping and go to the surgeries in Hucknall.

"Another reason we have been campaigning particularly hard for a centre in Hucknall is that we also have a lot of elderly residents who can’t travel long distances to get to vaccination centres elsewhere.

"They can’t get on buses or use taxis, so they need one close to them in Hucknall.

"It’s been a real problem for many of them, so for them and us to see Hucknall now getting a vaccination centre is just brilliant news.”
