Hucknall woman, 73, is back home after 13 weeks in hospital fighting coronavirus

Carole Guyler, aged 73, first developed Covid-19 symptoms just before the country went into lockdown in early March.
Carole, who has underlying health conditions including diabetes and bronchiectasis was admitted to the City Hospital on March 18, where she tested positive before being sedated and put on to a ventilator.

Hide AdShe then spent 92 days fighting the effects of coronavirus but has now been discharged and was given a special homecoming welcome.
She said: “I have come through this and I don’t recognise the world as we are now in lockdown.
“I will forever be grateful for the extraordinary care and support I received from the NHS staff at the City Hospital in the ICU departments, Nightingale Ward and Linden Lodge rehabilitation centre.
“I’m looking forward to spending time with my family and continuing my rehabilitation.”

Hide AdCarole’ daughter Catherine praised the care and treatment her mum received.
Catherine said: “Words are not enough to thank all of the NHS staff that have helped mum to be where she is today.
“My mum is a fighter and she fought coronavirus and won.”
Carole first became unwell on March 10, with what at the time weren’t thought to be coronavirus symptoms.
Catherine said: “She had loss of taste and smell and fatigue. She then developed a temperature, headache and difficulty breathing. She was unable to climb the stairs.

Hide Ad“Mum was on respiratory ICU initially then moved to cardiac ICU where she was on a ventilator and sedated for around seven weeks.
“At one point she had kidney failure, her blood pressure was out of control and we were told to prepare for the worse.
“She was then moved onto the Nightingale ward at the City Hospital for rehabilitation and was then transferred to Linden Lodge where she’s received intense rehabilitation.
“Mum has had to learn to walk again and she’s still very weak and rehabilitation will take a long time. It’s been a living hell for all of us.”
