Hucknall and Bulwell leisure centres set to re-open
Hucknall Leisure Centre is set to reopen from Monday, April 12, after receiving the Government’s go ahead for step two of the roadmap.
The Ken Martin Leisure Centre in Bulwell is also ready to resume more classes and activities on the same date.
Hucknall Leisure Centre is run by Everyone Active, in partnership with Ashfield District Council, and will re-open following a three-month closure due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Government confirmed this week that leisure centres would be safe to reopen with strict operational measures in place.
Lorenzo Clark, Everyone Active’s contract manager, said: “We’re very much looking forward to reopening our centres and welcoming back the local community.
“After being closed for three months, the latest step in the Government’s roadmap is a positive move forward for the leisure industry and gives people of all ages the opportunity to resume activity and exercise in their leisure centre.
“Ensuring our colleagues and customers remain safe continues to be our number one priority and we have carefully considered the strict measures to ensure we adhere to the guidance.
“We will be contacting all customers directly over the coming days regarding the reopening of centres.
"We look forward to welcoming everyone back and thank them for their patience.”
Theresa Hodgkinson, director of place and communities at the council, added: “We know how many people value sports and fitness as an important part of their lives so it will be great to see our leisure centres open their doors again.
“However, we understand that Covid-19 has not disappeared and we must therefore be vigilant and follow the rules in place.
“We have been working closely with our leisure contractors Everyone Active to get the centres ready to reopen.
"Strict measures are in place to ensure the cleanliness and safety, including measures for social distancing, new booking systems, hygiene and sanitation, risk
assessments, fogging and so on.
“We will continue to work with Everyone Active to ensure customers feel safe."
The Ken Martin Leisure Centre is run by Active Nottingham.
On its website, it confirms that, from April 12, gym sessions, Nottingham Swim School junior classes, junior tennis, disability tennis, and indoor court bookings for individuals and family bubbles and adult lane swimming and family swims will all resume at the Bulwell venue.
