Taylor Wimpey has donated £250 of books to children at Samuel Barlow School to celebrate World Book Day.

The firm, which is building new homes at its Kings Acre development in the village, is giving away the books to the school library as part of the national event to encourage children to enjoy reading.

Said headteacher Rachel Sheldrake: “We encourage our pupils to read as often as they can, either in class or at home with their families.

“This generous donation from Taylor Wimpey means we can add to the choice of books on offer in our school library, which is fantastic news for our eager young readers.”

The 17th annual World Book Day took place on Thursday to celebrate authors, illustrators and books - and to get more children reading.

Mariana Knight, regional sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey, said: “We are committed to supporting the communities in which we build our high-quality new homes, and this donation is an excellent example of the way we can help schools and other local organisations.

“By making this donation of books to the school, we hope it will encourage the children to develop a real passion for reading and that they will carry this love of books into adulthood.”
