Proms treat from revived Bestwood Black Diamonds band

IF you’ve never seen a concert by the ever-popular Bestwood Black Diamonds band, then now is your chance.

For they are staging a major show in the Dispatch district on Saturday (October 22) evening.

The Black Diamonds are in concert at St Mary’s Church in Bulwell. And admission is free.

The band will be treating the audience to a wide variety of music, culminating in a second half packed with traditional favourites from the Last Night Of the Proms.

Formed in 1947, the Black Diamonds took their name from the coal that was brought up from the former Bestwood Colliery, which closed in 1967.

Under the management of Richard Greenwood, the band are undergoing something of a revival and have recently received a £100 donation from stalwart Bestwood councillor Denis Beeston (Lab) from a funding pot for worthy local causes.
