Bulwell MP Graham Allen has welcomed news that the revamp of Basford Hall campus of NCN is set to go ahead following a £9m investment from the Skills Funding Agency.
The project, costing £27m overall, will mean the redevelopment of the existing site, including demolition of the current building.
The revitalised campus will become a regional hub for training in construction, science, technology and sustainable technologies.
The college says that as well as providing a base in the north of the city for young learners and apprentices, it will also offer workplace training and adult learning to ensure it fulfils its mission as a community college.
And it adds that now funding has been secured, formal plans will be submitted to Nottingham City Council’s planning committee in early 2014.
Work is scheduled to commence on the site in April 2014, which will facilitate the new campus opening to students in September 2015.
Said Mr Allen: “It’s brilliant news for young, unemployed people looking for skills but we need to further expand the provision to really tackle the skills deficit in Nottingham North. So far, so good.”
