UNDERSTANDING other cultures and traditions was helped by a Christmas Around the World event at a Hucknall school.
All pupils from Broomhill Junior took part in a number of activities to research how other countries celebrate the festival of Christmas.
This culminated in each youngster creating a tree decoration depicting elements of the season from places around the world.
“All the children got involved by creating their own decoration, which included stars, German gingerbread figures and Chinese figures to name a few,” said head teacher, Andrew Beckinsale-Yates.
“All the decorations were then hung on our huge Christmas tree in the hall which I collected from Southwell with a small group of pupils during a special outing.”
The group of ten youngsters, one from each class, were selected to make the journey by their teacher based on their successful performance throughout the year.
“Pupils were nominated because of their outstanding efforts either through behaviour or achievement,” added Mr Beckinsale-Yates. “They came with me to pick the tree and saw it chopped down before returning to school and helping to put it in place.
“The children then all added their individual decorations.”
The ten-foot tree now stands proudly at the Broomhill Road school.
