Accident fears for headphone users

CONCERNS have been raised about the safety risks of crossing roads while listening to gadgets through headphones.

Notts County Council is calling on pedestrians in Hucknall and the rest of Nottinghamshire to put away high-tech items like mobile phones and music players when trying to negotiate traffic.

The advice comes after a study revealed that the number of injuries or road deaths involving pedestrians wearing headphones has tripled in the last six years.

“Roads seem to get busier by the week and pedestrians need to have their wits about them,” said Coun Richard Jackson (Con), the county council’s lead member for transport and highways.
