Adult safeguarding group seek new leader

The Derbyshire Safeguarding Adults Board is made up of more than 20 county groups and organisations including Derbyshire County Council.

The group, which also has representatives from the police, health and probation, works in partnership to ensure vulnerable adults who may be at risk for a variety of reasons are protected and can live safely in their communities.

It takes the lead in the prevention of abuse against vulnerable people and works to identify and protect them by developing and implementing a wide range of policies and guidance across all the relevant agencies.

The board’s remit includes working with adults at risk to help them raise their levels of awareness and assertiveness when it comes to their safety and also preventing potential abusers from coming in to contact with them.

It also provides training opportunities for people working in relevant agencies so they can identify vulnerable adults who may be at risk and know how to offer support and help.

The previous Board Chairwoman has stepped down after leading the group for nearly three years and now a new person is being sought to fill the position.

Derbyshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care Councillor Clare Neill said: “It is essential that agencies work together to ensure the safety of vulnerable people and the Derbyshire Safeguarding Adults Board has a vital part to play in this.

“The new Board Chair will drive better co-ordination and will help promote the welfare and safety of adults at risk.

“The right person for this role will be able to influence and motivate others who want to work together to make a real difference to people’s lives.”

Potential candidates should have a record of leadership within a relevant organisation and considerable experience in working in partnership with agencies dealing with vulnerable adults.

They should also have the ability to lead and chair a strategic partnership board and understand complex issues.

The successful candidate would be expected to commit to around 10-15 days per year to the role, at a rate of £400 per day, plus travel expenses.
