Alcohol licence granted to Kirkby shop

Councillors have granted a licence to a new Kirkby shop which will permit it to sell alcohol from 6am until 11pm seven days a week.

Residents living near to the Central Avenue premises had raised objections to the application because of fears that selling alcohol late at night would attract crime and anti-social behaviour to the residential estate.

Applicant Niranchini Mayooran had initially applied for a supply of alcohol licence until 11.30pm and for a late night refreshment licence from 11pm until 11.30pm.

But during today’s Ashfield District Council licensing sub committee meeting he amended his application, requesting a supply of alcohol licence until 11pm and withdrawing the late night refreshment application.

As Nottinghamshire Police had raised no concerns with granting the alcohol licence, the committee granted the premises licence.
