Alfreton man lost £15,000 in casino after stealing from M1’s Tibshelf Service Station

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Monday how Kanthar Vijay Kumar (34), of Manor Close, Newton, Alfreton, took the money from his employer Tibshelf Service Station on the M1 motorway.

Lynn Manning, prosecuting, said: “Kumar had been taking large amounts over four days and using it to gamble and on three occasions he was able to return it because he won but on one occasion £15,000 was gambled and lost.

“He went into the office where the safe is and took £3,100 and replaced it with receipts so it looked like money was in the bag and he went to the northbound services and did something similar.”

Miss Manning added Kumar gambled this money at a casino and when he ran out he returned and got more and the loss to the company that evening was £15,000.

Kumar pleaded guilty to four counts of committing fraud which happened on 19th, 24th, 26th and 28th February. Magistrates committed Kumar to Derby Crown Court for sentencing for 7th October.
