ALFRETON: Police warning over thefts from vans

Police are advising that people make sure that vehicles are locked, parked securely and that tools and valuables are removed.

The advice comes as five incidents have been reported to police about vans which have been broken into since Sunday, 10th November.

A Mercedes Sprinter van parked on Birchwood Road in Alfreton was targeted sometime overnight between Monday, 11th November and Tuesday, 12th November, although nothing was stolen.

Also on the same night a number of power tools were stolen from Renault Master van parked on Searston Avenue, Holmewood.

There were other reported incidents in Whitwell and Clowne, police said.

Community Safety Inspector Russell Dakin said: “We are encouraging owners to take the necessary safety precautions from simply locking vehicles and removing valuables, to considering fitting and using a suitable alarm.

“Tools and other valuables can be expensive, and could also mean you are unable to work while waiting for them to be replaced. While it might seem inconvenient, removing these items and securing your vehicle might be worthwhile in the longer term.”

Residents are also encouraged to report any suspicious behaviour around vehicles to police.
