Youngsters past and present will be marking a special anniversary of the Papplewick Pre-school with a family fun-day.

The group will be celebrating 40 years of the village hall-based facility which provides early years education to pre-schoolers from the village and beyond.

There will be a variety of fun-filled activities taking place on Sunday 16th March at Papplewick Village Hall including a balloon race and the chance to look back at old pictures and reminisce over the past four decades with former members.

“We are hoping to attract some of the original committee members who helped set up the group all those years ago,” said current treasurer, Lesley Mills. “We are especially trying to find founder member Ethel Swan who we think lives in Daybrook now as she is sure to have some fond memories of the group.”

Papplewick Pre-school was originally set up in the old village hall as a playgroup scheme for parents to meet up with their little ones and make friends.

But as the years went by, it developed into an educational facility to prepare children for school and now receives some government funding which is boosted by fundraising activity.

“It’s a chance for people connected to the group to have a reunion and catch up,” added Lesley. “We are hoping to display many pictures and items from the past and present for people to see as well as family-fun-filled activities.”

If you are a past member or an original committee member, have old pictures you are willing to share or would like more information about the anniversary event please or the Papplewick Preschool Facebook page.
