Appeal for cash to build community hall

THE SEARCH is on for £350,000 worth of funding to build a new community hall to serve a church and local groups in Bulwell.

The existing building at Our Lady Of Perpetual Succour Roman Catholic Church on Brooklyn Road is currently closed because of its poor condition and lack of modern amenities.

It has served the local community for more than 70 years but is no longer fit for purpose.

There is now a desperate need to work towards a new building to house groups including a pensioners’ club, SureStart toddler group, karate classes, bingo and a youth group.

Applications have been made to various funding sources. A committee behind the scheme wants any new building to provide language classes, computer courses and a home for children’s groups and exercise classes for the elderly.

Coun Gerry Davie (Con), who represents Bulwell Forest at Nottingham City Council, has pledged £350 from a funding pot to support his local community.
