Archi’s marathon effort for charity

A Mansfield businessman is getting ready to brave the desert storms in a bid to raise cash for homeless charity Framework.

Archi Stewart, who recently established his own business, is currently in training for the Marathon Des Sables - described by the Discovery Channel as ‘the world’s toughest footrace’.

He will join over a thousand competitors on the starting line in the Saharan Desert in April.

And over six days he will run the equivalent of six full marathons, carrying with him all that he needs to survive in the harsh conditions.

Archi will be raising money for homeless charity Framework, which has a base in Sherwood Street Mansfield and is currently under threat due to planned funding cuts from Nottinghamshire County Council.

He said: “I take a huge amount of belief into the race, knowing how far I have come from weighing seventeen stones and not being able to run my own length in January 2010 to completing The West Highland Way Race this summer .

“However, that belief has to be underpinned by training and the unknown element is how I will be affected by such extreme heat. I wanted to help those for whom every day brings hardship and struggle. Framework is a great charity and I am proud to be raising money for them.”
