Armed cops storm quiet street

ARMED police stormed a Hucknall street after reports a man had been seen with a weapon.

About a dozen officers were called to Carlingford Road at 12.18 pm on Sunday (January 30) and surrounded a terraced house on the street.

But the drama was over in just a few minutes.

For a 24-year-old man came out of the property with his hands in the air and gave himself up.

He was immediately arrested and quizzed on suspicion of committing affray.

Officers searched the house for some time but the man has since been released without charge.

There is no suggestion that the weapon involved was a gun.

Coun John Wilmott (Lab), of Hucknall, who is deputy leader of Ashfield District Council, lives on Carlingford Road.

He said residents were very concerned after hearing all the commotion.

But anyone who came out on to the street to find out what was happening was quickly ushered back into their homes.

One householder said: “It was chaos but it was dealt with and over extremely quickly.”
