Ashes of Australian Stag scattered at Mansfield FC ground

The ashes of a life-long Mansfield FC fan were brought back from his home in Australia at the weekend to be scattered at the One Call Stadium.

Mansfield-born Peter Passant died aged 66 on 7th June and 40 close friends and family, from both Australia and the UK, gathered at Field Mill on Saturday (11th June) to scatter his ashes.

Pete emigrated to Australia over 35 years ago, but still came back every year to watch his team.

Chairman of the Stags Supporters Assosciation (SSA), Dean Foulkes, described him as a “very passionate, fully committed Stags fan” who will be missed by everyone at the club and messages filled with memories of him have been sent into the ‘Stagsnet’ message board.

For the majority of his time in Australia, Pete lived in Sydney, where named his house ‘Field Mill’ and had the car registration MTF - he moved to Queensland for his retirment in 2013.

His sister Christine, who still lives in Mansfield, on Westfield Lane, says that he had been a Stags fan for as long as she can remember.

She said: “Pete loved his family, both in Australia and back here. On many occasions, he would visit for a weekend, when he would make sure to visit all immediate family - and, of course, pull in a Stags match!”

She added: “I not only loved him as a brother, I looked up to him with admiration and respect.”
