Ashfield District Council wins Gold award for stray dogs service

The council has managed to obtain the Gold Award every year since the RSPCA started the awards in 2008.

Coun Cheryl Butler, Portfolio Holder for Environment, said: “This amazing achievement only serves to highlight the exemplary work of the Environmental Protection Team and kennelling contractors in protecting the welfare of stray dogs and ensuring that as many as possible find their way back to their owners, often completely free of charge.”

Lenny Rolles, the RSPCA’s Senior Parliamentary Adviser said in spite of the tough economic climate faced by local authorities, Ashfield District Council has maintained a commitment to animal welfare through the provision of stray dog services.

She added:“The RSPCA is delighted to award the prestigious RSPCA Gold Stray Dog Footprint again this year. to recognise their hard work.

A coucnil spokesman reminded residents who find a stray that they should should call the council with as much detail as possible to help reunite it with its owner.
